Stock Talk

More or less — you choose

We, individually and collectively, have a very significant role through the choices we make (daily, hourly, even minute by minute) in determining whether we will have ‘more’ or ‘less’ happiness or grief, health or illness, peace or turmoil, prosperity or poverty, in our daily and life-long time here on earth.

Of course, I acknowledge that there may always be exogenous events which impact us that are completely beyond our control or influence. These ‘happenings’ can be as wide ranging as the universe itself. They may be in the form of a flood or an earthquake which can, at least momentarily, impoverish us. Conversely, they can be in the form of a windfall of unexpected wealth (for example, a surprise gift in somebody’s will) which enriches us, even if only for a short while. These happenings may also be an out-of-the-blue event, such as a stroke or vehicle accident that serves to physically impair us, whether momentarily or permanently. It can also be a human event, such as a devastating betrayal that deeply impairs or wounds us emotionally.

Even accepting that these types of episodes outside of our planning or control may occur, the principles we apply to—or not to any situation, whether short or long term, bring predictable consequences, positive or negative. In other words, the principles we apply in our lives will have a significant bearing on whether we will have ‘more or less’ positive or negative consequences in our day-to-day lives throughout the timeline of our existence.

Does faith matter?

The universal and never ending forces at work in the cosmos are based on spiritual realities which will profoundly impact you and me whether we believe in their existence or not.  For example, you may believe, as I do, that there is a personal and infinite God, who is committed to influencing (not forcing), our decisions for good and the well-being of the universe. On the other hand, you may believe, as I did for many years, that no such entity or being exists.

The fact is, the application or not of the principles analyzed in my following articles, will still have a remarkable and measurable effect on you and those around you. Of course, whether these effects will be more or less positive will be largely up to you.
